Mean Streets Get Meaner in Detective Comics #800 In the wake of the massive "War Games" storyline, Batman will be called upon to protect a Gotham City that's more dangerous than ever. Such a landmark change demands a landmark issue, and DC Comics will provide it with the 48-page Detective Comics #800 (SEP040287, $3.50). Ever since the Dark Knight Detective made his debut in the pages of Detective Comics #27, the title and the character have shared an unbreakable bond. This extra-sized issue -- written by Andersen Gabrych and illustrated by Pete Woods and Cam Smith -- will put that bond to a demanding test when Batman must face off with both the Mad Hatter and Killer Croc on Gotham's brutal streets. Fans of award-winning Stray Bullets creator David Lapham will definitely want to pick up this issue, as he will provide a back-up story that prefaces Detective Comics' next storyline, the 12-part "City of Crime," which will be written and illustrated by Lapham.
Dark Horse's Incredibles Offers Powerful Fun
The Disney/Pixar alliance has used cutting-edge computer animation to create some of the world's newest and best-loved characters in the Toy Story films, A Bug's Life, Monsters Inc., and Finding Nemo. Expect more of the same magic when The Incredibles #1 (SEP040018, $2.99) visits the humdrum life of office worker Bob Parr, formerly the mighty Mr. Incredible until multiple lawsuits forced him out of the heroism business. Unable to put his adventurous past behind him, Bob moonlights by doing "hero work" in the evenings ... and is soon recruited for a super-secret mission by a mysterious woman. The book is scheduled to ship on November 24.

The book, which will feature a wraparound cover by Romita Jr., is slated to ship on October 6, followed by Wolverine #21 (AUG041774, $2.25) on October 20.
Image Raises Chaykin's American Flagg!
Created, written, and drawn by Chaykin, American Flagg! captured the imaginations of readers worldwide from 1983-1988, and also captured numerous honors, including nine Eagle Awards. These collections should attract longtime fans of the series, and readers who didn't get a chance to experience it the first time around. Volume 1 (SEP041521, $19.95) will collect American Flagg! #1-#6, which include "Hard Times" and "Southern Comfort" -- plus a nine-page prelude written and illustrated by Chaykin that was never printed in the original comics -- while Volume 2 (SEP041522, $19.95) will feature issues #7-#12, which include "State of the Union" and "Solidarity -- For Now."
Space Ghost Lives Again in DC Mini-series
Cartoon Network's programming of the classic Space Ghost series on its sister network, Boomerang, has kept the animated icon fresh in the minds of readers for decades. But this project promises to deliver a serious and surprising portrayal of the character that no Space Ghost fan will want to miss. Space Ghost #1 (SEP040353, $2.95) -- written by Joe Kelly (Superman, JLA) and painted by Ariel Olivetti (JLA: Haven) -- will set the grim tone by showing how a young police officer tries to end the corruption in the elite space force that employs him, at the cost of his family, and his soul. Sporting an electrifying painted cover by Alex Ross, who will provide cover art for the entire series, the first issue is scheduled to ship on November 17.
Woo-hoo! Simpsons Comics Hits #100!
Since it debuted on Fox in 1989, Matt Groening's The Simpsons has set new standards for television comedy. Simpsons Comics has maintained those standards to become one of the medium's premier humor titles. This special 100-page issue should continue the tradition with a full-length story (and no ads) in which Bart discovers that he and all of Springfield have been the subjects of 100 comic books. When he tries to find as many issues as he can, he uncovers the greatest mystery in comics collecting. Packed with fan-favorite characters -- and a guest appearance with art by Sergio Aragonés -- the book is scheduled to ship on November 24
