The Maxx Vol. 1
THE MAXX Volume 1
collects THE MAXX #1-6, featuring story, art and a painted cover by Sam Kieth and dialogue
by William Messner-Loebs. This volume introduces the surreal, quirky, yet touching
universe of The Maxx, a homeless super-hero who lives in a cardboard box on the street. He
befriends Julie, his social worker/soulmate, and the relationship they share, both in the
real world and the dreamlike fantasy realm known as The Outback, forms the heart of THE
MAXX...and it's a story only Sam Kieth could bring to such vivid life. This volume also
features a cameo appearance by Erik Larsen's Savage Dragon. Alan Moore referred to Kieth's
work as "Almost a country to itself...Kieth's oeuvre stands alone. He appears to have
a direct line connecting him with the forgotten, nearly sunken world of childhood and the
otherness of its peculiar reality."
