Ritsuka Aoyagi is a sixth-grader who's still troubled by the loss of his older brother. One day he meets a mysterious man who claims to have fought alongside his brother. His name is Sobi Agatsuma, who was Seimei's, Ritsuka's brother, "Fighter". Sobi wants to Ritsuka to become his new sacrifice since his brother died. When Rituka accepts, the mysteries of his brother's death become clear. Ritsuka then steps into a violent world of struggle against the enigmatic organization known as the Septimal Moon.

Ritsuka, the one known as Loveless, has become a Sacrafice for the powerful Fighter, Soubi. When Soubi fights, Ritsuka is the one who takes all the injuries. In return, Soubi follows Ritsuka's orders. But when Ritsuka's one order is not to fight, Soubi takes matters into his own hands.

Why do you always break your promises? His feelings confused, Ritsuka tries to pull away from Soubi. A strange message prompts him to confront Seven Moons alone. To uncover the secret of his brother, Ritsuka finds himself trapped in his own mind, all of the horrors of his subconsious attacking him at once. But his salvation is not to be found with his brother Seimei, Soubi, or the mysterious battles he has been taking part in. To become whole he must answer the riddle of his true name, "Loveless," which is tied to how he feels about others, not how they feel about him.
